Custom Website
Domain Name
Your domain name is the address that is entered into a computer in place of a standard IP address to open your website. For example, rather than entering 10.0.200.300 (the IP address), you would enter http:www.yourorganization.com to open your website. That address is the URL. The www.yourorganization.com section is your domain name. Your registered domain name is yourorganization.com.
If you have not purchased your domain name yet, that will need to be done before your website will appear on the World Wide Web. A domain name registration site is the website from which you buy your domain name. To find a domain name registrar, such as Network Solutions, GoDaddy, Register.com, Yahoo, and others, enter “domain name” into any search engine.
Hosting the Domain Name:
VentureCD will host both your website and domain name on the VentureCD servers. Email accounts can be created from your domain name such as yourname@yourorganization.com.
Once your organization’s domain name has been received by VentureCD, DNS information will be entered on the VentureCD servers. Please make sure everything is completed with your registrar before sending the domain name to VentureCD
Files:
A website is a collection of web pages and other information such as images, sound, and video files, made available through what appears to users as a single web server. All information you will store in the web page you are about to create will be uploaded to the server.
Most websites are created using Hypertext Markup Language, more popularly known as HTML. HTML looks a lot like old-fashioned typesetting code, where you surround a block of text with codes that indicate how it should appear on the browser. Following is an example of basic HTML code.
<body bgcolor="#7b68ee" link="#534741" vlink="#534741" alink="#cd853f">
<body link="#534741" vlink="#534741" alink="#cd853f">
<table width="700" align="center" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="0" bgcolor="#5500aa">
The commands found between angled brackets are called markup tags. These tell the web browser how to display the page.
Two of the most popular tools used to build HTML web pages are Microsoft FrontPage and Adobe Dreamweaver.
Hosting the Website:
Web Partner Group can host the custom web-based applications we develop, the custom static websites we design, and we do host our Content Management System including the websites, domain names, and email.
The monthly fee for the Content Management System includes the license fee for the software which includes upgrades and new applications.
Email
We provide email within our Content Management System
We will also provide email for the custom static websites we design and host.
Design Process
For some this will be your first website, others will want us to replicate what they have plus integrate forms, newsletters, or calendars, and others want to start over with a new design. Some clients will want custom static sites while others want the features of a Content Management System.
Many clients have preferences but arriving at a final design is frequently a process of narrowing down the options. We will ask you to provide as much information as possible to help us prepare mockup designs to help you narrowing down the option and feel good about your design.
We will ask for logos, brochures, graphics, etc. We will ask you to respond to a check list of things that will help you focus on what you need. We will ask for your preferences and recommendations.
Our designers will pull the information and preferences together and create three examples. From these designs we try to establish a more definitive baseline of preferences and needs. We can modify and expand on one design, blend designs, change colors, change fonts, change layout, add graphics, etc.
Sometimes we can go from these examples directly to the design of a functional website. Sometimes it takes a couple additional steps until the example reflects what you want in the design. Once we have the design we will create the website including additional pages, navigation, etc.
The actual design will be completed in phases and we will present the website to you at each phase for your input. You will be assigned a project manager to coordinate the design, graphics, content, testing, review, and acceptance.
Websites are a work-in-progress. We encourage our clients to limit the project of creating a website to that which is required or the minimal of what is actually needed. You can always enhance, improve, and add to a website.
Some websites are a few pages and others are enormous. The time to design an average 7 page website using our Content Management System is approximately 40 hours – this time will easily double for a custom static website.
Payment and Pricing
We require a $200 non-refundable deposit that will be credited toward the first $200 of work. We invoice online weekly and accept all major credit cards. All design services are billed at $40 per hour. Monthly hosting fees are invoiced in the same way.
